Tiebreakers - Overtime

Posted Fri Mar 03, 2017 - 05:53 PM

The standings at the end of the regular season will determine the playoff slot in which your team will start in. If the standings result in a tie, the following format will be followed to determine final standings:

Tiebreaker format:
o Head to head wins
o Lowest points against between tied teams
o Head to head against common opponents

Overtime Format:
During playoffs, if the game ends in a tie at the end of regulation time, officials and teams will follow this overtime format:
If tied at the end of regulation: 2 x 5 minute halves
If still tied: another round of 2 x 5 minute halves
If tied after two rounds of 2 x 5: a single 5 minute period
If tied after single 5 minute period: teams will go to a 5 round shootout (5 players from each team, each shooter a different player)
REMEMBER: Overtimes - No time outs in over time; 1 minute half time; teams switch sides at half

New Rules Summary 2016-17 Season

Posted Wed Oct 19, 2016 - 08:46 AM

We've made a brief summary of the rules changes that is easier to interpret than the wording in the rule book.

Summary:
1.) May now ‘pull their goalie’ and replace them with a court player. Note however that only a goalie can enter the crease to make a save. Doing otherwise would result in a 7m and a sanction against the player in question.
2.) When it is discovered that a player is not signed in it will result in progressive punishment against the team official. If the team doesn’t have a team official, then the player is subject to progressive punishment.
3.) In the event a player enters the court with faulty equipment (i.e. not covering the hinge of a knee brace) it will result in progressive punishment against the team official. If the team doesn’t have a team official, then the player is subject to progressive punishment.
4.) If during the last 30 seconds of a game the ball is out of play, and a player or team official prevents or delays the execution of a throw for the opponents, in order to prevent them from being able to take a shot on goal or to obtain a clear scoring chance, the guilty player / official is to be disqualified and a 7m throw is to be granted to the opponents. It applies to any type of interference (e.g., with only limited physical action, interfering with the execution of a throw such as intercepting a pass, interference with the reception of the ball, not releasing the ball).

WTHL deviations from the new IHF rules:
1.) We will continue to use passive play as we did in prior years (not limited to 6 passes);
2.) Injured players don’t have to sit out for three offences;
3.) The blue card will not be used.
